Middle School 571

Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, New York

Who inspires you?

Who advocates for you?

Since 2002 several hundreds of public schools in NYC have been replaced, shut down, and phased out due to "low performance". MS 571 is housed in PS 9 on the same floor as Brooklyn East Collegiate Charter School (yes, that is three schools in one building). At the time 571 had approximately 60 students with only 7th and 8th grades left. Their phase out began in 2011 and will permanently close their doors by June 2013. The charter school will take over the space that 571 currently holds.

The children of 571 were asked to write down who in their life inspires them, who advocates for them, who encourages them with the exclusion of educators and celebrities.

Our names should be on those boards. It takes a village...
